Keeping Hands Safe

• Stay alert at all times to changing circumstances.

• Watch out for pinch points where your fingers could get stuck – between a box and a machine, or between boxes, for example.

• Look out for sharp items that can cause cuts, punctures or splinters: nails, broken pallet edges, protruding nails, sharp straps.

• Lift properly, testing the load to make sure it’s light enough to pick up and easy enough to carry. Take only one item at a time.

• When putting objects back down, start by laying them on the edge of the surface – don’t put your hands underneath them; rather,  slide each object onto the surface.

• Wear gloves when it makes sense to do so.
