Concerned about getting a little forgetful? Avoid those sticky situations!
Here are some tips from the federal government that can keep you healthy and/or slow memory loss:
• Keep your brain active. Challenge it with reading, writing, learning a new skill, playing games – even gardening can stimulate brain cells.
• Eat a healthy diet, including lots of vegetables (other studies suggest fruits as well). Reduce foods high in saturated fat and cholesterol.
• Maintain social interactions. They can help reduce stress levels and have been associated with a lower risk of dementia.
• Lower cholesterol and high blood pressure.
• Don’t smoke or abuse alcohol.
• Get regular exercise. Physical activity can help maintain blood flow to the brain and reduce risk factors for severe memory loss.
