Look, Mom - no germs!
Wouldn't it be great if all parents set the example and taught their children to wash hands frequently to avoid colds and the flu?
It's easy to pick up a virus by touching a contaminated object - a doorknob or a computer keyboard, for example. People then put their fingers in their mouth, or rub their nose or eyes.
By teaching children to avoid those things and to wash their hands throughout the day - 15 to 20 seconds of scrubbing hands and wrists with soap and water, and then rinsing - we can prevent colds, sore throats and other illnesses that can leave whole families sick and down for the count.
Advice: Try making hand-washing fun. Have your kids sing a favorite song, such as 'Happy Birthday,' that lasts about 20 seconds while they scrub. That way they'll be sure to wash long enough.
